Installation
Download, install, and grant the two permissions TetherVoice needs.
Download
TetherVoice ships as a signed, notarized macOS app. Pick the build that matches your hardware — Apple Silicon uses Metal GPU acceleration for roughly ten times faster local transcription than CPU alone.
| Build | Hardware | Acceleration |
|---|---|---|
| Apple Silicon (arm64) | M1 and later | Metal GPU |
| Intel (x86_64) | Intel Macs | CPU |
Permissions
Two macOS permissions are required. The app is not usable without either, and onboarding walks you through both on first launch.
| Permission | Why it is needed |
|---|---|
| Microphone | To capture your speech. In local mode the audio never leaves your machine. |
| Accessibility | Does double duty: it authorises the event tap that watches for your hotkey, and the synthesized ⌘V that pastes text into other apps. |
Free up the Fn key
macOS binds the Fn / 🌐 key to its own action by default, which would fire every time you dictate. Set System Settings → Keyboard → “Press 🌐 to:” to “Do Nothing”, or choose a different hotkey such as Right Option.
